Frequently Asked Questions

What is climate-responsive design?Climate-responsive design adapts to environmental conditions like light, temperature, and humidity without relying on electricity or mechanical systems. Our objects naturally regulate indoor climates and air quality, inspired by nature’s own materials and methods.

How do these objects clean the air and regulate temperature? We use natural reactions to create tiny, breathable pockets within the material ~ this helps control humidity and airflow. Meanwhile, living cultures on the surface interact with air, supporting gentle oxygen release and purification.

What does “cold-processing” mean?Cold-processing avoids high heat or industrial tools. We use techniques that can be done in low-energy environments (even a kitchen!) making our methods more accessible and sustainable.

What areas are you working in?
Functional home goods, regenerative material research, open-source DIY kits, high-end design, public education, and zero-waste systems.

How long will these objects last?
Our objects are designed to be durable and stable for several years under normal indoor conditions. Because they are made from natural biopolymers, their lifespan depends on exposure to moisture, sunlight, and handling.

How should I care for them?
  • Keep objects away from excessive moisture or water to prevent softening or degradation.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which may cause fading or brittleness over time.
  •  Handle gently—these are sturdy but not as hard as traditional glass or stone.
